Soft Play (Selected works)

An opening exploration inspired by the idea of adult ‘playtime’, specifically BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Dominance and Submission) and other consensual sexual or erotic pursuits.  Drawn to a palette suggestive of a gentler form of play the series of self portraiture and sculpture pokes fun at methods of arousal, substituting ‘toys’ reserved for private (though also often public) activities while reflecting the experimental and DIY aspects of BDSM. Ideas of exploration, training, humiliation and skill are touched upon here and opens up beginnings of further discussions and curiosity of why we play this way. The BDSM ‘scene’ covers a wide spectrum of activities, far greater than those represented here, not forgetting pleasure can be often found in the novel and unexpected. Actions can be as diverse, complex and extreme as the interpersonal dynamics between those individuals engaged, and behaviours are ever growing in creativity.
